Position Summary:
Serves as a role model for technician staff. Responsible for accurate, efficient preparation and distribution of medications and parenteral admixtures to inpatients and outpatients. Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs non-judgmental aspects of pharmacy practice. Assists with billing support. Completes projects using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Other duties may be assigned. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job. Not all duties are performed at all ministries.

Rearranges schedule to compensate for staffing changes.

Acts as a primary trainer and resource for entry level technicians.

Current competencies have been passe! d and are on file.

Completes special projects as assi! gned, including billing, tech check tech, narcotic reconciliation, etc.

Plays a key role in training, maintenance, and troubleshooting with all pharmacy automation.

Prepares total parenteral nutrition solutions. Accurately reads and interprets labels and fills first doses of medications.

Independently uses inpatient pharmacy computer system to print labels, reports, fill lists, billing, etc.

Extemporaneously packages bulk medications into unit dose packages, including accurately calculating expiration dates as mandated by regulatory agencies.

Fills and checks floor stock requisitions.

Prepares large and small volume parenteral products using aseptic technique to maintain sterility.

Prepares select sterile products using American Society of Hospital Pharmacy risk level 2 bulk production methods.

Answers phone by fourth ring properly (identifying department, stating name) and courteously.

Uses ap! propriate judgment when answering and triaging phone calls.

Prepares non-sterile compounding products.

Delivers controlled drugs, sterile products and unit dose carts to patient care areas.

Returns medication to stock.

Accurately and efficiently checks assigned inventory stock locations for outdated medications each month.

Accurately and efficiently checks assigned liaison floor stock locations.

Accurately and efficiently refills emergency trays.

Receives orders from patient care areas via fax machine and routes/responds appropriately.

Sends medications to patient care areas.

Follows all departmental policies and completes assigned duties in a timely manner.

Attends staff development and education programs.

Prepares non-sterile compounding products.

Management Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience

Hig! h school diploma or G.E.D. (General Education Diploma) required upon date of hire.

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from an approved two-year college or technical school preferred.

Behavioral Skills

Technical Skills

Computer skills include updating and saving information in a word processing program.

Must be able to read and interpret Latin abbreviations commonly used in pharmacy practice.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Registry with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy required upon date of hire.

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required upon date of hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR! /AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross received within 30 days from date of hire.
