Location: Wichita, Kansas

Assists Wichita State University students in maintaining regular class attendance and optimum academic performance by providing primary care and manage! ment of illnesses, injuries and emotional problems.
Employee is expected to exercise independent professional nursing and health care judgments in consultation with physicians and other nurse staff. Employee is expected to follow written protocols and departmental policy guidelines.
Special assignments given by the supervisor include verbal or written instructions with general guidelines and sufficient detail to ensure understanding of the assignment. May develop procedures or programs with input from other professional staff. Information regarding patient care is released to third parties only with informed consent, proper authorization and determination of need to know.
Employee is expected to demonstrate a continuing commitment to diversity and to continual enhancement of his or her patient care capabilities, including remaining current on best practices and examining new technologies.
Works with other nurse practitioners, nurses, support personnel, physi! cians, dietitian, psychologist, and pharmacist in Student Heal! th Services on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Minimum Education (Required):

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Clinician Program resulting in certification.
Minimum Experience (Required):
  • Minimum two years experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum one year experience as Nurse Practitioner in clinical setting (20 work hours per week minimum).
  • Interacts with other staff as well as students with varied socioeconomic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
Preferred Education:
  • Master of Nursing from an accredited educational institution.
  • Certificate of training in counseling for pre and post HIV antibody testing.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in college health setting, community health, or! primary care clinical setting.
  • Experience with well woman exams, STI testing and counseling, wellness and health promotion presentations.
  • Experience with computer data entry and use of Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Required licenses, certificates and registrations:
  • Current unencumbered license as RN in State of Kansas.
  • Certification as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in State of Kansas.
  • CPR certification (Healthcare provider BLS or Advanced) current or to be completed within one month of starting position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities (Required):
  • Ability to use independent nursing judgment to correctly diagnose symptoms and identify correct treatment protocol.
  • Ability to consult with other providers and community resources to determine appropriate course of treatment.
  • Time management skills to allow examinat! ion of 300-600 patients per month.
  • Strong presentation and tea! ching skills.
  • Demonstrate successful experience with a diverse population.
Physical Job Requirements:
Clinic environment includes daily walking, standing, sitting, reaching. Periodic squatting, stooping, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 25 lbs, carrying up to 10 lbs, and body coordination/balance. Duties will involve daily handling/feeling, grasping, vocal ability and clarity so can be understood by others, vision acuity ( near, far, peripheral and color), hearing, and repetitive motions.
Ability to stand or sit for at least 30 minutes at a time.

Environmental Factors:
Exposure to infectious diseases.

Potential exposure to environmental hazards, sharp instruments, etc.

Potential of exposure to verbal abuse or physical violence from patients (on rare occasions).
