Detailed specification about this position opportunity kindly read the description below. Job Summary : Responsible for overseeing all medication storage and preparation in the hospital. The director of pharmacy ensures that the pharmacy provides optima! l services; meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of the organization (CHI and St. Catherine Hospital). The director facilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through the use of safe, cost-effective drug therapies, and meet the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, acute care, psychiatric, oncology and obstetric patients.

Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols
Essential Function
Standards:
(1) Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate, and safe medication use.
(2) Develops and maintains a medical staff-approved drug list.
(3) Supervises medication storag! e and preparation areas throughout the facility.
(4) Provi! des for the educational needs of health care professionals, patients, and their families.
(5) Ensures maintenance of an adequate medication supply. Ensures the integrity of the medication supply. Establishes specifications for the procurement of medications, chemicals, and biologicals.
(6) Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or distributed to floor stock.
(7) Assures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances.
(8) Ensures applicable CE records and licensure are maintained in department files.
1. Supervises all pharmacy personnel. Recruits, interviews, promotes, disciplines, and terminates pharmacy staff.
2. Develops job descriptions and performance standards. Evaluates and counsels staff on their performance.
3. Prepares work schedules and monitors workload statistics. Maintains an appropriate staffing level.
4. Provides for the educational needs of the pharmacy staff.
5. P! repares a pharmacy budget annually.
6. Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures within budget guidelines.
7. Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budgeted targets.
8. Ensures preparation and submission of patient charges and financial reports to administration in accordance with policy.
9. Administers reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data.
10. Ensures compliance with health system policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations.
1. Develops and implements a strategic plan for the pharmacy that supports the mission and goals of the organization.
2. Develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated department services.
3. Develops, implements, and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the performance improve! ment plan of the organization.
4. Participates in al committees/fun! ctions required by the organization including the Medication Use Process Committee, Formulary Committee, and performance improvement teams.
5. Establishes productive, collaborative relationships with associates in other hospital departments, physicians, educators, and healthcare providers in the community.
1. Maintains current pharmacist licensure.
2. Attends management meetings.
3. Sustains professional competence and promotes development through participation in inservices, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations.
4. Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements.
1. Interprets medication orders and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately. Maintains accurate, complete patient medication profiles.
2. Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including IV solutions and piggybacks, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products accurately.
3. Issues controlled substances to patient care! areas (via Pyxis) and maintains records as required by law.
4. Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose.
5. Reads, extracts, and interprets information in patient charts accurately.
6. Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions and medication errors accurately and in a timely manner.
1. Facilitates the development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes, and critical pathways as approved by appropriate committees.
2. Facilitates the identification, resolution, implementation, and communication of cost-effective medication use issues in collaboration with the medical staff.
3. Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
4. Provides accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff.!
5. Provides training and education to other healthcare providers (! nursing and pharmacy students, nurses, CNAs, ARNPs, pharmacy staff).
