Job Title: PHARMACY TECH MED HISTORY Job Code: 25320 Shift: 8 Hour Variable Shift Employment Status: Full-Time Average Hours per Week: 40 Category: Pharmacy Services ! We serve Kansas and northeast Oklahoma through our doctors, hospitals, senior villages and health services.Position Summary: Provides technical assistance in the documentation and clarification of patient medication history lists under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs non-judgmental aspects of pharmacy practice.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Obtains, processes and enters patient medication historiesunder the direct supervision of a pharmacistand completes full history documentation in computerized system. Clarifies information through communication with providers, patients and pharmacies Performs sp! ecial projects for the department Works with multiple medicati! on information and automation systems Answers phone by the fourth ring properly (identifying department, stating name) and courteously Follows all departmental policies and completes assigned duties in a timely manner Completes competencies within assigned time frame Participates in staff development and education programs Multi-lingual (Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Sign Language etc.) preferred Exhibits strong organizational and interpersonal skills Maintains excellent relationships with other departments Adheres to policies, procedures, standards and regulations Uses appropriate judgment when transferring and triaging telephone calls Works effectively within and between each ministry of VCH-W Works effectively with Patient care units, Physicians offices, Pharmacies, Nursing homes, etc. (VCH-P) May perform other duties as assigned or requested JOB REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: Education and/or Experience High School Diploma required Associates degree preferred Two years e! xperience as a pharmacy technician required Outpatient pharmacy experience preferred Behavioral Skills A personal presence which is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Via Christi Health Compassion for patients, family members and others, along with a nurturing spirit to provide care during emotionally stressful situations Must display good verbal and written communication skills and be able to professionally receive and follow verbal instructions Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Able to access, input and retrieve information on the computer Able to tolerate frequent handwashing Technical Skills Working knowledge of common medications, medical abbreviations, medical terminology and disease states Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel) Demonstrate ability to perform basic mathematical calculations Maintain competency in central distribution functions essential to patient care operations (examples would include: Omni-link, Siemens Pharmacy Technician functions, Omnicell technician distribution functions) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must be registered with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy and Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required; OR must be registered with Kansas State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy intern.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red! Cross within 30 days from date of hire. Must be able to move around the facility throughout the workday. (VCH-P) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Position Scope/Patient Population: Involved in the care of all patients, from neonatal to geriatric. Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of drug therapy and familiar with resources to find necessary information. Must be able to interact well with healthcare personnel.
