Position Summary:
Manages, coordinates, directs, and maintains an efficient, productive, and organized clinical structure. Shall have administrative authority over and responsibility for the functions and activities of the nursing department and is a key member of the hospital administration team. Actively participates with leaders from the governing body, administration, management, medical staff and all areas of the hospitalâs decision making structure. Responsible for maintaining ministry compliance based upon regulations governing the ministry. Responsible for developing and adhering to departmental budgets within ministry guidelines. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Works cooperatively and efficiently with CEO/Administrator, consultants, and ministry staff in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating all clinical services.
- Assumes responsibility for forecasting, planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing and evaluating all clinical services and programs.
- Assumes responsibility, administrative authority, and accountability for the supervision of nursing care provided to those we serve.
- Manages and monitors the departmentâs activities by effectively communicating policies, expected outcomes, efficient work routines, and work procedures to the nursing staff.
- Develops and maintains clinical budgets within ministry guidelines.
- Responsible for collaboratively developing, implementing and evaluating quality of care standards.
- Assumes responsibility, administrative authority and accountability for the Quality Assurance program within the ministry.
- Develops and maintains clinical policies and procedures within system guidelines.
- Monitors admissions, discharges, and transfers to assure appropriate care and compliance with State and/or Federal regulations.
- Assumes responsibility for enhancing professional knowledge and skills through participation in educational programs and seminars.
- Assumes co-administrative authority for the ministry in the absence of the CEO/Administrator.
- May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
- Works with and under the supervision of the Pharmacist in Charge.
- Participates on the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee and leads committee in Clinical Manager absence.
- Responsible for accurate, efficient and timely preparation and distribution of medications and parenteral admixtures to inpatients and outpatients.
- Accurately reads and interprets labels and fills doses of medications.
- Independently uses inpatient pharmacy system to print labels, reports, fill lists, billing, etc.
- Prepares large and small volume parenteral products using aseptic technique to maintain sterility.
- Directly supervises or oversees the supervision of clinical staff, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
- Ensures staffing guidelines and make nursing assignments according to qualifications of staff and characteristics of the resident population.
- Works with Human Resources Department to recruit, interview, select, orient, and maintain a skilled clinical team.
- Coaches, develops and evaluates a dedicated, high performing clinical staff.
- Oversees supervision of clinical staff compliance with infection control, personal protection equipment, and blood borne pathogens, hazardous material handling and fire safety.
- Ensures HIPAA compliance with resident and employee information.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- RN required for skilled nursing; BSN from an accredited college or university preferred. APRN or Physician Assistant license helpful.
- Emergency Room experience needed.
- Three years nursing management experience acute care hospital preferred.
- Experience with current and emerging delivery systems with capability of implementing changes as needed.

- Compassion for patients, family members, and others; along with a nurturing spirit to provide care during emotionally stressful situations.
- Must display good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to professionally receive and follow oral instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations and reimbursement.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current RN license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross within 30 days post date of hire. TNCC, PALS or ENPC within 6 months of hire.
- Verification of BLS, at time or within 30 days of hire.
