We serve Kansas and northeast Oklahoma through our doctors, hospitals, senior villages and health services.Position Summary: Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Pharmacy/staff pharmacist, fills routine orders for oral, IV medication and IV-admixtures. Assists in inventory management of pharmaceutical products and performs assigned function on the computer.Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Makes daily rounds to floors to determine patient requirements for the following twenty four hour period, returns discontinued IV preparations and other pharmacy material, enter necessary information into the computer for IV preparation, and post credits for discontinued IVs. !
Accurately prepares large and small volume IVs in a t! imely manner and ensures that all preparations are correctly labeled and checked by a pharmacist before they are dispensed, as well as maintains a sufficient frozen product inventory to meet weekly requirements. Checks each unit at least daily before departure to ensure that all IV preparations are stored under proper conditions, and generate a weekly IV supply purchase order from Materials Management, as well as maintain sufficient IV-admixture inventory. Cleans the IV hood, with log book documentation, twice daily, records daily freezer and refrigerator temperatures in the log book, report any temperature variance to the Director of Pharmacy or Staff Pharmacist, and maintains records of IV hood culture, sensitivity studies and biannual certification contracted through an outside service. Restocks the IV room daily, maintain accurate quality control records for equipment that is used in measuring medications (amounts/volumes) for mixing IVs and preparing compounds, generat! e a computerized pick list, accurately fills and rechecks unit-dose cassettes using pick list, ensure that cassettes are properly labeled and delivered in a timely manner.
Informs pharmacist of any information or problems encountered when filling, rechecking, or exchanging cassettes, as well as ensures that there are no shortages of floor stock including narcotics, bacteriostatic saline, MOM, etc; according to policies and procedures for order checking and record keeping. Receives all in-coming orders from wholesalers and direct accounts; checks and records dating for out-dates management and places supplies in their appropriate location in the pharmacy, also delivers special orders to other departments and ensures deliveries are completed and signed invoices delivered to accounts payable in a timely manner. Receives controlled substance inventory, reconciles the narcotics received with quantities listed on the invoice; reports any discrepancies immediately to the ! Director of Pharmacy, enters narcotics received into inventory, accurat! ely recording the inventory and date on the DEA form and into the narcotic inventory log book, and returns out-dates or rejected supplies to the appropriate manufacturer or wholesaler, completes the necessary forms to ensure timely credit. Charges "surgery sheets" on a daily basis; prepares the monthly accounting report for floor stock items issued to the various departments and delivers report to accounts payable.
Takes a weekly narcotic inventory of all automated dispensing machines in the hospital; reports any discrepancies that cannot be reconciled to the Director of Pharmacy or designee; completes a physical inventory of all items in each automated dispensing machine at least monthly; ensures that a current inventory list is attached to each machine for unit reference. Assists the staff pharmacist in the following activities: keeping bottles, vial drawers supplied; maintaining an adequate and orderly supply of plastic bags; filing orders and profiles; obtainin! g pertinent demographic information and recording this in patient and computer profiles; preparing first doses, participating in order entry, if requested and emptying pneumatic tubes. May perform other duties as assigned or requested. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education and/or Experience High school education or equivalent.
Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to patients with communicable diseases. May work around hazardous materials, including radiation, chemotherapy agents, and biohazards. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, and sharp objects potentially contaminated with blood borne pathogens or other infectious agents. Additionally makes site visits to banks, schools manufacturing plants and various other local businesses.
